Ameesha Joshi

Ameesha Joshi is an award-winning filmmaker and producer whose intimate, globally resonant storytelling consciously subverts cultural clichés. Deeply rooted in her Indian heritage, she transitioned from a software career to earn an M.F.A. in Film Production from the prestigious Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema in Montreal. Joshi’s versatile filmography spans documentary, fiction, and experimental cinema. She spent a decade writing, directing, and producing her debut feature documentary, With This Ring (2016). The powerful chronicle of India’s champion women boxers garnered the Best Emerging Director Award at the Asian American International Film Festival in New York and Best Documentary at the New Jersey Indian International Film Festival. Expanding into fiction, Joshi wrote, directed, and co-produced Sonia Honey (2026). Chronicling a transformative day for a middle-aged actress, the short film was selected for the Short Film Corner at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Currently, she is expanding her international producing profile by collaborating with DOSOMIK and global co-producers on the experimental dual-format project Beneath Her Shroud.
