Bhalji Pendharkar, was an Indian film director, producer, screenwriter and actor who worked mainly in Marathi cinema. He was known for films based on historical, social and cultural themes, particularly stories connected with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Maratha period. He was honoured in 1991 with Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest national film award for cinema artists.
